CAPSDH ANNUAL REPORT

2007
INTRODUCTION

This report reviews CAPSDH’s works in 2007 and further describes programmes and activities outlined for the year 2008. Though 2007 was not all that eventful CAPSDH collaborated with Rabito Clinics to carry out HIV/AIDS Voluntary, Counseling and Testing (VCT) programme which was sponsored by the Ghana AIDS Commission.

2007 ACTIVITIES.

ACTIVITY 1. 2006CONFERENCE ASSESSMENT- CAPSDH assessed and evaluated its 2006 international conference on HIV/AIDS and human rights organized in October in the said year to find out its prospects and setbacks. The conference (ref. 2006 Annual Report-www.capsdh.org) was very successful as a communiqué was issued at the end of the conference to address pertinent issues on health and human rights.

Letters were sent out to thank our partners and sponsors who assisted enormously during the conference. Also copies of the communiqués were distributed to our sponsors, human rights organizations, health institutions and government agencies. Contacts were made to the participants of the conference to rekindle their interest in the conference and urge them to implement what they learnt from the conference.

ACTIVITY 1. CONFERENCE- Mr. Atta Kwaku Boadi, CAPSDH’s Communication
Director attended one week conference in Accra at the International Conference Center on human rights situation in African. The conference which preceded the African Union Summit held in Accra last year was organized by the African Commission on Human Rights in Banjul, Gambia under the auspices of the African Union. (AU). CAPSDH applied for the Observers’ Status of the organization and a certificate will be issued to CAPSDH this year.

ACTIVITY 2. TRAINING-  CAPSDH partnered with Rabito clinics to do one-week VCT training for 35 staff drawn from six centers of Rabito clinics namely; Accra, Tema, Koforidua, Ho, Cape Coast and Takoradi. The project coded “MSHAP” was funded by the Ghana AIDS Commission.

The training was held in Accra at the Teachers’ Hall. The participants were taken through topics like, importance of VCT, the concept of VCT, Setting up VCT centers, the relationship between people living with HIV/AIDS and health personnel and among others.

CAPSDH educated them on the importance of human rights in relation to HIV/AIDS situations. It was made clear that the rights of people living with HIV/AIDS are very essential and must be respected and safeguarded as such.

At the end of the training the participants were asked to experiment what they have learnt by dramatizing a counselor and an HIV/AIDS patient situation.

It was quite successful training and the impact has been felt in all the six centers where the participants were drawn from especially, the Accra center.

ACTIVITY 3. MEMEBERSHIP- 2007 saw an increase in CAPSDH’s membership by four. Three men and a woman registered to be members of CAPSDH. Out of the three men one was a white man and the woman is also a resident in the United Kingdom. They were given materials on CAPSDH to read and know more about the organization.

ACTIVITY 4. RECRUITMENT- In the later part of the year CAPSDH recruited a woman by name Mrs. Margaret Ninsen as its General Secretary.

ACTIVITY 5. REGISTRATION-CAPSDH renewed its registration certificate at the Department of Social Welfare in August 2007 as a national NGO.
